Introduction
The Great Britain (United Kingdom (UK)) is a multicultural nation born out of the British Empire and its people, with a large population of recent immigrants and their descendants, meaning that the term “British” can describe people with a variety of backgrounds and dual identities. However, we also identify Great Britain people by Countries, English, Welsh, Scottish, and Northern Irish.
I am English also British, but I live in a South East Asian Secular Country where the majority are Islamic Muslims, that in general live harmoniously with the minority Non- Muslims. As a Christian, I have many friends who are Muslim and Non-Muslim.

Recently I saw a result of the census of the UK’s almost 70 million people indicating that there are 81.6% of people are White British, 9.6% Asian. 4.2% Black, 3% Mixed and 1.6% Others.
There are 43.5% that are declared Christians and 46.5% have no religious affiliations, Islam 6.5%, Buddhist 2%, Hindu 1.5%.
So why, is there so much fear of Great Britain of the 1940’s being changed from a historically Christian Based Country to an increasingly Secular Based one. Is the Fear or Concern by many in Great Britain, that the Islamic Muslim Communities will change Great Britain into an Islamic Country valid?
What does British mean?
A major observation here is the term ‘British’. In the 1940’s when you were termed ‘British’ you were likely to have been White, originating from long standing English, Scottish, Welsh or Northern Irish blood line and mostly Christian. Therefore, many mature and older people use this as a standard for what we know as ‘Great Britain’, not the ‘United Kingdom’. Like a recent WWII 100 year old Veteran said:
“My message is, I can see in my mind’s eye, rows and rows of white stones, of all the hundreds of my friends and everybody else, that gave their lives – for what?” he replied to the show’s hosts. “The country of today… No, I’m sorry, the sacrifice wasn’t worth the result that Great Britain is now.”
Legal Immigration
I am one of the older people that in the 1960’s saw the change starting to take shape as there were many South Asians that legally entered Great Britain to help in its rebuilding including working in Factories that required labour. I remember I used to go on a bus from Keighley in West Yorkshire to Bradford at 7 am in the morning on the way to work near Leeds. I was the only White Englishman, Christian on the full Double Decker bus the rest were South Asian, Muslims, going to Bradford where they lived after a night shift.

Muslim Population Facts
Before going further we must consider the facts regarding this conception that Great Britain is being overrun by Muslim people. Based upon reliable census information there are 4 million Muslims representing about 6.5% of the total population of England and Wales of 62 million. Looking at 49 different Main Areas in England and Wales there are 2.85 million Muslims occupying these areas. However it is noticeable that the majority are located in or near big Cities.

Referring to the England and Wales map there are 5 major Areas, (1) London and Greater London, (2) West Midlands (Birmingham), (3) East Midlands (Leicester), (4) North West (Manchester and Greater Manchester) (5) Yorkshire and Humberside (Leeds, Bradford and Kirklees). Which show the populations in the thousands (K).

In 2001 there were 1,179,000, in 2011 there were 2,064,000 and in 2021 there were 2,850,000 Muslims in the Areas shown on the map. Therefore when considering the total population of England and Wales of 62,000,000, this is a relatively small number of Muslims compared to the Total population.
Are Muslims Taking Over Great Britain
So back to the real Fears and Concerns that Muslims are taking over Great Britain or in this case England and Wales. I believe the problem is not the numbers of Muslims but their specific communities as shown on the England and Wales map. Throughout the World the Islamic way of life is completely different to many other religions and ways of life, so much so that they are a very tight knit society bound by their strict religious practices as they have been for centuries. I am not saying this is wrong but different so much so that this way of life takes precedent over all other ways of life in whatever Country there are Muslim communities. This in its self can be seen as quite intimidating and frightening to some Non-Muslim people.
Due to this close knit Muslim society and practices the Communities of Muslims have created their own infrastructures where they live, such as food shops, clothing shops, restaurants, entertainment facilities, educational facilities and of course there religious facilities such as Mosques that have loudspeakers transmitting voice audio on a regular basis, that can be quite loud and ‘Imposing’ to non-Muslims.

At this point I may say that others like Chinese and Indian and of course the White English British communities have their own facilities such as Churches and Cathedrals , Temples and specific food and clothing shops, etc but they do not appear to be so ‘Imposing’.

What is meant by ‘Imposing’
In fact I believe that the word ‘Imposing’ is important in the context of the relationship of the Muslim way of life and others. ‘Imposing’ means that you force your presence on to someone or another community or being intimidating due to a difference.
For example I saw a video of a White Englishman man walking through one of the Areas in Greater London and he said he thought he was in a Muslim Country not Great Britain as everything around him was related to the Muslim way of life as we have discussed. He also said that he felt that he was not welcome in some parts of the Area, which made him fearful.
Could this be the catalyst of the notion that we are becoming an Islamic Muslim Country, or is it the Fear of the Islamic Muslim way of life in certain areas that are gradually expanding, and with it, increasing the Muslim population, which is imposing on the traditional way of life of the majority of Non-Muslim English and Welsh people.
The other aspect of the Muslim Areas I have identified, is that where there are large Muslim Communities they tend to be in districts that have local government representatives who are Muslim. This has caused some problems where non-Muslims living in these areas have experienced administrative differences. Another is recent instances where British National Flags have been removed but Non-British Flags are still flying, causing conflict and intimidation.
Illegal Immigration
Another very important fact is the problem of Illegal Immigration using small boats and other means to enter the Great Britain. The majority have Muslim religious backgrounds as the South Asians but unlike them, the Immigrants come from Countries that have a completely different way of life and social discipline. Also these are mainly Muslim single men who will in time expand the Muslim communities even further by marriage and children.
Great Britain is Overwhelming White Christian British
I have just come back from the UK after visiting my family and where we went, Newcastle, Gateshead in the North East and Norwich and Surrounding Villages in Norfolk, we did not experience any sign of a major change from 20 years ago as most of the people were, White Christian English, British people enjoying a typical British way of life.

Great Britain’s Empire and People
We must remember that Great Britain, its previous Empire and People, has in real terms been a Country that has always had people from different Races and Religions for hundreds of years, many are part of the British Commonwealth of Nations. As part of that legacy we have always tried to live together in harmony on this small Island Nation.
Conclusion
My conclusion is that for the foreseeable future Great Britain will remain a Secular but mainly Christian Country with the White English British retaining their reducing majority due to increasing birth rates of other races and religions.
However, there is a great deal of apprehension of the Muslim Communities some of which, do not wish to fully integrate with the majority White English British way of life and traditions, due to their own way of life which is totally different but as I said takes precedent. I also believe that the regular loud audio from Mosques does not help the situation. This maybe, the concern that the majority English and Welsh have, that hopefully can be addressed for the future generations to live in harmony. In general the majority of Muslims, Chinese, Indians and of course English British Whites are all classed as British and are law abiding citizens living together to enhance their lives for their future generations.
Finally, England, Great Britain is my home land, where I was educated and joined the Royal Air Force and created one of the first Multimedia Companies in the world. My recent visit to England reinforces the fact, that Great Britain will remain a Christian Based Country and is still the best country in the world.
