Is Age just a Number

Introduction

I was very lucky to have a wonderful Mother and Father who passed away at 86 and 95 years old respectively, who loved life and being together. I am also fortunate at almost 85 to have a much younger Wife and adult Daughter and a mature Son, four adult Grandchildren and three Great Grandchildren one of which is an adult from my first marriage. In addition, I have a Sister, who is 83, all of them we have just met in England in the past two weeks. The England holiday trip makes you forget your age number especially when with my beautiful Wife and Daughter we enjoyed our ten day England holiday so much.

Motivation to Live

When I look at the suffering so many people are going through within the world but they still want to live. I consider myself extremely lucky that my life in WWII at School and College, being in the Royal Air Force as an Engineer for 25 years and having my own Multimedia Aircraft Engineering Training Business for 33 years. In addition to having two families from the age of 20. So at 85 what is my motivation to live? First I love my life with my Wife and Daughter. Secondly I love my life with my Friends and last but not least, I love being alive and I want to live as long as God will allow me to just as my Mother and Father did.

Body Changes

Throughout my life I have not had a serious illness except for the insertion of two stents into my arteries near my heart some years ago. However, my body is starting to show real signs of aging mainly Arthritis. My left knee can be be quite painful especially when walking, which puts pressure on my right knee. My hands especially my fingers and thumbs can be painful at times with two of my fingers unable to close when clenching my fist. My hands at times shake which is generic from my Mother who also had this problem. However in general I feel reasonably fit and healthy. I am finding it increasingly difficult to go with friends for our Sunday morning walk due to my knee problem in the park before going for breakfast.

Mind and Reactions

I have to be truly thankful that at 85 I still have all my cognitive senses in tact which allows me still to act and think in a normal way. I still drive my car on a regular basis and I can still use my electronic devices including my computer to create graphics and stories such as this one. When I go out with my family and friends, I am still able to sing karaoke and join in social activities including having a few beers. My memory to date is reasonably good and I can recall things from many years ago. I noticed on my recent holiday in England, when driving, I could still remember the road routes to different places from 30 years ago.

Genes are Important

Many years ago whilst having a routine medical in the Royal Air Force, the RAF doctor told me I was very fit and it was down to my Genes. Genes are inherited from your parents which in some case is a disadvantage and in others like mine an advantage. However, even with good Genes life is never certain as it can end at anytime not of our choosing.

Age is not a Number it is Luck

All I can say is ‘Age is not a Number’ it is all a matter of ‘Luck’ or some may say ‘Fate’ which at this time is supporting my very good life but for how long who knows , only God maybe. I hope who ever reads this that ‘Luck’ and ‘Fate’ are with you as it has with me, as shown below taken two weeks ago, whilst on holiday in England.
